Candidate Q&A – Jessica Sanchez – Tax Assessor-Collector

What’s your favorite place in Hays County?

I've loved watching the communities in Hays county grow. Love seeing the growing number of locals opening and expanding their locally owned and operated businesses. Giving our county a unique mark.

What’s your history of supporting Democratic organizations prior to your run for office?

Although I have no history of supporting any organization, I have currently been participating in local organizations that help our community.  I believe the need is out there and I am willing to give my time to help.

Have you ever donated and/or voted for a Republican? If so, why and to whom?

I have never donated to the party but I did vote for my boss.  My concern was providing for my family.  At that time I was becoming a single parent and I was unsure of what lay ahead.

What is your biggest liability or weakness as a candidate, and what is your response to people who may hold that against you?

I see myself as one who works to fulfill everyone's needs. I accept all challenges because I've overcome so many. People may judge confidence but I admire it.

At the discretion of the Tax Assessor-Collector, unpaid tolls may prevent people from renewing their license. It’s been reported that Texas tolling agencies like TxTag erroneously bill. If elected, how would you address the tolling crises?

I will work with TxTag to ensure a more effective report. Look into how the information is being given to us on back/delayed child support to withhold renewal of registration stickers. This could help the tolling agencies have more a reliable report.

How do you feel about abortion access? How will you support women on this issue?

I believe only a woman knows her body, and it is her decision to do as she sees fit. There shouldn't be any judgement for any decision made, for we do not live in their shoes. I want to encourage others to not judge and to just listen.

What Democratic values will you apply to your work once elected?

Everyone is taxed, no matter their political affiliation. I will work alongside my staff to meet all of our deadlines and provide customer service that ALL Hays County residents trust and are proud of.  I will hear the needs/issues of the residents' and work to ensure their issues are resolved and handled appropriately.
