1. In a few sentences, tell us about your background, focusing on your education, professional experience, and leadership roles that prepared you for this position?
I am an attorney and I have spent nearly my entire career in public service. I am currently a child abuse prosecutor, and in the past I have worked for both CPS and Legal Aid. I have served on the boards of organizations important to me and that serve the public, including the Kyle Ethics Commission, the Hays County Bar Association, American Legion Texas Boys State, and KBAD. I am a hard worker experienced in collaboration and leadership with a passion for public service.

2. Many residents are dissatisfied with road conditions, traffic congestion, and limited sidewalks in Kyle. What specific steps would you take to improve mobility without overburdening taxpayers?
I am also dissatisfied with our roads! That is why my slogan is “fix our roads”. However, just paving over roads is not enough. We must also find traffic solutions, whether through rerouting traffic or redesigning roads, to ease the traffic on 150, 25 and other traffic arteries. We need to establish strategic partnerships with Hays County, TXDOT, San Marcos, and Buda to improve both our roads and mobility. I appreciate that the City recently did a citizen survey to hear the needs of the citizens, and we must execute on those results.
3. Many in our city are fearful of the warrantless and extrajudicial removal of Latino members of our community by federal authorities. Where do you stand on the federal government’s deportation agenda?
I strongly oppose the federal government ripping our neighbors out of our community in its campaign against immigrant communities, especially Hispanic immigrant communities. It makes us less safe, not more. In a horrifying turn, the Supreme Court just allowed law enforcement to racially profile people during immigration enforcement. A City Council Member’s job is to serve ALL residents of Kyle, regardless of immigration status. I oppose the demonization of our undocumented residents and stand by them.
4. The cost of water utilities in Kyle are going up and residents are concerned about the long term sustainability of our water. How can the city ensure that we have a secure water supply for the long term future of Kyle?
New water sources have come online for Kyle recently which is great! Unfortunately, some of the water rate increases are tied to the cost of securing these new water sources. However, just buying more water isn’t a feasible plan going forward.
As we grow, we must find ways to use the water we already have less rather than seeking more and more water. Through encouragement of xeriscaping, sustainable personal water use, and working with businesses to reduce water use, we can conserve water and hopefully eliminate the need to continue adding more water sources.
5. Kyle has seen rapid commercial growth, often dominated by fast food and corporate chain stores. What policies or incentives would you propose to attract and support local businesses, small retailers, and locally owned restaurants, while maintaining the city’s unique character?
The first thing I will do is listen to what the needs are of people who have businesses here or who want to start them. There are many tools in the “toolkit” available to the City – zoning, tax incentives, and the downtown master plan. However, I will be the first person to tell you that I do not have all of the answers. I think the best way to meet someone’s needs is to hear them out and have a “yes, if I can help it” attitude.
6. Compensation for Kyle’s mayor and council members has been a regular topic of conversation in Kyle. Should compensation be lower, stay the same, or be higher?
I think it’s about right. I don’t think anyone should be getting rich off of the city, and the current compensation of $1500 per month ($1000 salary and $500 stipend) I think fairly compensates the Council Members for their time and expenses related to serving the City.
7. Kyle has plans for parks, art installations, downtown developments, a sportsplex, and more. What possible City projects are you most (or least) looking forward to?
I am looking forward to seeing how the retail portion of so-called “Project Sahara” will be developed. Southeast Kyle could definitely use a grocery store and other shops so that we don’t have to travel so far just to reach food and other amenities.
I’m also looking forward to the completion of Chevo Pastrano Sr. Parkway diverting traffic from 150, 21, and 35!
