1. In a few sentences, tell us about your background, focusing on your education, professional experience, and leadership roles that prepared you for this position?

My time as the City of Kyle District 2 Representative, in addition to my M.A. in Legal Studies and 14-year career as a paralegal, have helped build a solid foundation for me to understand community issues. Each experience has helped me develop skills in legal research and critical thinking, which enables me to see things from different perspectives and make informed decisions. All of which has helped me serve the needs of our community.

Instructions: For the next questions, please limit your responses to 100 words each.

2. Many residents are dissatisfied with road conditions, traffic congestion, and limited sidewalks in Kyle. What specific steps would you take to improve mobility without overburdening taxpayers?

The city should allocate more funds in its annual budget for road maintenance and the expansion of roadways to create new arteries and widen existing roads. Relying on bonding for road projects every five to ten years is not feasible, and these improvements cannot wait. The city should also create safe walking routes via natural paths in areas like Buton Creek and Veteran’s Drive, where there are no sidewalks or shoulders, creating safety hazards for bikers and pedestrians. By prioritizing new arteries and natural paths, the city can improve safety, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance the quality of life for residents.

3. Many in our city are fearful of the warrantless and extrajudicial removal of Latino members of our community by federal authorities. Where do you stand on the federal government’s deportation agenda?

As a resident facing a violation of my First Amendment rights by the city, I understand the concerns regarding the federal government’s deportation practices. Regardless of our personal views, it is imperative for our governments to uphold our Constitution to ensure all individuals, regardless of differences, are treated fairly and with respect. I hope these issues stay out of local government, allowing us to focus on building a safe and inclusive community. However, If the issue arises, my priority will be to encourage dialogue and understanding while protecting the rights of our residents.

4. The cost of water utilities in Kyle are going up and residents are concerned about the long term sustainability of our water. How can the city ensure that we have a secure water supply for the long term future of Kyle?

To secure a stable water supply for Kyle's future, the city must manage growth responsibly. The 2023 Niple & Burgess report revealed that Kyle has been in a water deficit since 2023. As mayor, I will start by promoting the 2023 Kyle Reclaimed Water Master Plan and support it with an agenda item requiring all new development to include or fund its necessary reclaimed water infrastructure. I will also support an audit of our water resources to ensure long-term sustainable management.

5. Kyle has seen rapid commercial growth, often dominated by fast food and corporate chain stores. What policies or incentives would you propose to attract and support local businesses, small retailers, and locally owned restaurants, while maintaining the city’s unique character?

To attract and support local businesses, I would reallocate incentives for corporate chain stores to small shops and locally owned restaurants, with an emphasis on the downtown area. The city’s outdated First Year On Us (FYOU) program needs to be updated to provide more funding to help entrepreneurs launch unique businesses that reflect our community. By focusing on these strategies, we can strengthen our local economy while preserving the unique character of Kyle.

6. Compensation for Kyle’s mayor and council members has been a regular topic of conversation in Kyle. Should compensation be lower, stay the same, or be higher?

Compensation for the mayor and council members has generated significant discussion, particularly after the controversial 2019 increase from $100 to $1,000 for council members and from $200 to $1,300 for the mayor. This 900% rise passed with a narrow 4 to 3 vote, leaving many residents upset. Comparing nearby cities, some councils receive between $125 per meeting, while others, like Pflugerville, offer no compensation. Although I would be open to changes from the compensation committee, I believe the current compensation is adequate and do not support additional compensation.

7. Kyle has plans for parks, art installations, downtown developments, a sportsplex, and more. What possible City projects are you most (or least) looking forward to?

I am excited about the revitalization of our downtown area, which truly deserves attention. My vision includes supporting small, unique local businesses to create foot traffic, as well as the inclusion of public art that honors our history while inspiring our future.

Equally, I look forward to the parks. Our city’s agricultural heritage plays a significant role in providing these beautiful spaces, which will enhance community connections and improve the quality of life for everyone
